Day 04 • Preserve Money

Save Before You Spend.

Saving is not what you do with money left over. It is what you deliberately do before your money gets consumed by spending.

Start the Lesson

The Principle

Save intentionally before your money finds another destination.

Financial stability does not happen simply because you earn more. It happens when you intentionally keep part of what you earn and give those savings a purpose.

Today's Lesson

Pay yourself before your money disappears.

Many people spend first and save whatever remains. The problem is that there is often very little left to save.

A better approach is to decide in advance how much of your income will be saved. Once your income arrives, move that amount toward your savings goal before unnecessary spending begins.

Saving gives you breathing room. It helps you prepare for emergencies, pursue important goals and reduce the pressure that comes from living from one income cycle to another.

Key Principle

Do not wait to see what is left before you save. Decide what to save first, then organize your spending around what remains.

Give Your Savings a Purpose

01. Emergency Savings

Build a financial cushion for unexpected expenses and emergencies.

02. Short-Term Goals

Save intentionally for expenses and goals that are coming within the near future.

03. Major Goals

Prepare gradually for important goals such as education, housing, business or major purchases.

04. Future Opportunities

Keep resources available so you can take advantage of worthwhile opportunities when they arise.

Take Action

Make saving a decision, not an afterthought.

Before your next income arrives, decide how much you will save, what the money is for and where you will keep it.

Today's Money Action

Choose one savings goal and make your first deliberate contribution toward it today — no matter how small.

Keep Learning

Saving creates financial breathing room.

Tomorrow, we will build on this principle by learning how to prepare for unexpected financial needs.
